About

Lee Bordon Matthews Smith was born in Mt. Airy, (Mayberry), North Carolina and grew up on a small, rural farm in Virginia surrounded by forests, orchards and various pets and wildlife. Growing up isolated and surrounded by nature he has had a lifelong love and fascination with the natural world and animals.
He has always been fascinated by the creation of the illusion of three dimensions on a flat surface and currently includes the contrast of realistic imagery with flat, abstract, or textured surfaces. He incorporates pencil, ink, pastel, wax, watercolor and oil paint on wood, paper and canvas, in figurative works of mostly people and animals, combining observational drawing and painting with work from the imagination.
